Minneapolis Indian Wedding Photography | Madina + Omkar

Today is part two of my blog series on Madina + Omkar’s spectacular, multi-day Minneapolis Indian wedding photography ceremony. Take a look at part one, their Muslim wedding ceremony.

Madina + Omkar’s Hindu wedding ceremony began as they both made preparations at their respective family homes. Omkar dressed in truly stunning attire that included a custom-made embellished coat, hat, shoes and even a sword. He then partook in an Imli Ghontai ceremony which involved biting mango leaves. Then his Barat (he and his wedding party) headed over to Madina’s family home.

In the meantime, Madina was also preparing for the first portion of their day. She began the day by donning a gorgeous custom-made pink sari with matching silver and crystal jewelry. Shortly afterward, Omkar’s Barat arrived in their motorcade in a din of joyfully honking carhorns and Indian music. Once he was out of the car, he and his family were welcomed by Madina’s family, and the Hindu priest led a series of ceremonies of blessings and welcomes. Madina’s family then led them down near the site of the ceremony for another welcoming ceremony.

In the meantime, Madina and her mother started their own ceremony with the priest under the stunning Mandap they had brought into their back yard for today’s wedding ceremonies. After their own Imli Ghontai ceremony, along with several other ceremonies, Madina and her mother headed back inside so Madina could change into her next dress. This time she was in a gorgeous, custom-made, embellished yellow sari and matching gold and crystal jewelry.

As Madina was indoors, Omkar took his place in the Mandap to begin the next portion of his Hindu wedding ceremonies. After these were completed, Madina’s family went inside to summon her. She came out in an entourage of relatives, hidden by another embellished cloth so as to hide her from view, until she arrived at the Mandap and the moment where they were able to see each other for the first time that day.

Once they were together in the Mandap, the priest was able to take them together through several more important Hindu ceremonies, including tying together the ends of their garments, pouring holy water through their parents’ hands through their hands, a sacred fire ceremony, exchanging of flowers and rings, and many blessings from family and friends.

Once their Indian wedding ceremony was complete, Madina + Omkar were able to receive well-wishes from their family and friends, as well as take time out for group photos and eating from the amazing Indian buffet that was enjoyed by all.

As soon as they were finished, Madina was off once again to change into her next gown – a stunning, custom-made, exquisitely ornate red dress, paired with gold and red jewelry. The dress had handwork and materials from six different countries! The two of them then left Madina’s family home with much love and fanfare from everyone, and headed off back to Omkar’s family home for more celebrations. Her family continued their celebrations through the day as well.

What an amazing Minneapolis Indian wedding photography celebration this was! Everything and everyone were so amazing – I loved spending this time with their families and having the honor of witnessing such amazingly beautiful traditions as their Minneapolis wedding photographer. Keep watching for the next blog about Madina + Omkar’s spectacular St Paul Hotel reception soon!
